Good evening everybody and Welcome to the Asterdale for what we hope is a cracking League Cup Quarter final tie against our local neighbors Borrowash Victoria. First of all I hope the weather is kind and our ground staff can get on the pitch and get it in decent condition for the game. The fact we played on it a week last Saturday when it was very close to being waterlogged meant that it cut up very badly particularly in the half at the Borrowash road end.
Assuming the game is on we should be in for a cracker although we recognize it will take a huge effort from our lads to overcome a very strong Borrowash Victoria side to earn a passage into the semi finals. Mark Wilson continues to strengthen his squad and they are well capable of a League and cup double with the quality of players he has assembled.
However it is up to us to "upset the applecart" as they say, and that is the challenge to my players this evening, with the incentive of a semi-final spot in the offering.
Myself and Ian McAndrew, along with Mick Bentley are working extremely hard to Improve the club, and we are making headway, but patience is required or we risk losing the solid foundations we have created in the last two years.
We are now at the stage where we are getting very close to getting results off teams in the upper reaches of our Division, and consequently getting some pleasing comments from supporters and opposing managers alike regarding the way we are playing. However this is not what we want to be remembered for, and so we must either find the odd player that will make the difference or tweak our tactics slightly so that the players we have got stop conceding so many goals, as that is the bit that is missing from our game at the moment.
Those of you here for our last home game and watched us go down 4-3 to St Andrews must have enjoyed the game as a spectacle, for the neutral it was a fantastic game of football played on a very sticky surface and with a very strong wind blowing straight down the pitch. It was a great shame we didn't get anything from the game as some of the football we played was outstanding, but as we told the lads afterwards we have to man up in both penalty areas because no matter how well you play, if you concede three and four goals a game and miss chances at the other end, you will lose football matches at this level or any other level for that matter.
Loads of positives though and lets hope we can make the Improvement we are looking for tonight and surprise a few people by progressing to the Semi-Finals of the League cup.
